Development is the building of an individual's competency in a manner that allows them to strengthen their understanding to a point where they can change or control a behavior.
You remember the old saying "The more you know, the more you grow".
That is a truthful old adage.
The opportunity to measure our growth becomes apparent because of the acknowledgment of a new skill, insight, behavior or idea.
As a child, I remember how excited I became when I realized that I could recite my ABC's, count to 10 and even jump rope.
Changing an individual's thoughts about a thing is learning.
When we learn we must make connections in order for understanding to occur.
We all learn differently and information must be organized in a manner that reaches each individual at his or her level.
In our personal lives, much is taking place.
We are continuing to learn more about ourselves each day.
As days pass, reflections of our past are quickly and suddenly apparent, only to fade away just as fast as they came.
We can remember what we were taught before and can also understand the differences in what is being taught today.
Reflection is a very important aspect of awareness.
We must reflect on what was happening before in our lives, in order to become aware of what is taking place now.
Learning how to handle situations, circumstances and issues in our personal lives helps us professionally and vice versa.
The major point that must be conveyed is that learning is taking place regardless.
We find ourselves even learning negative behaviors many times unconsciously because of our environments.
There is some training that we did not knowingly sign up for, yet the training and its effect seems to follow us wherever we go.
Awareness is key! We must become aware of conditions, circumstances and situations that affect our lives in an effort to change things.
Complacency is a major problem today.
To be complacent is to want to stay in our comfort zone.
This comfort zone is the level of our experiences.
We cannot learn in our comfort zone, we just continuously experience that which we already know.
Stepping outside of our comfort zone requires a small level of risk.
Risk is sometimes associated with fear.
Fear of the unknown or uncertainty about outcome, is normally the reason many people avoid taking risks.
Growth and development takes place when we are willing to do something different and come outside of our comfort zone.
After this decision is made, we will experience the learning and the strengthening of our weaknesses that will allow us to move further in life.
Closer to personal and professional success as well as closer to that which we were created to achieve.
